Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed situated in Washington DC. She was hired by NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office by 1988. She was made Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell hosted and participated as panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. She was part of a panel discussion at the 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell was awarded the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. She covered many notable stories such as arm control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. She also traveled to many summits with the help of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
